On “Multiversum,” we find Swiss producer and multi-instrumentalist Andre Polar diving deeper into his signature, wintery sonic universe while expanding his formidable color palette. The song opens pensively as delicate strings almost seem to be quivering in the northern wind. As the track develops, this pensiveness becomes tinged with determination, as drums and piano urge us forward on our Arctic trek. Polar’s masterful arranging abilities are on full display as the interplay between the drums, piano, strings, and synthesizers weave a dizzying yet delicate tapestry. In gradual and subtle layers, the song grows and swells. Doubt displayed early in our sonic journey gives way to firm resolve to press forward, snow crunching underfoot while a Polar wind howls overhead. Each sonic element develops incrementally, in clear dialogue with the other instruments while leaving space for enchanting, cinematic textures to develop. It is clear that Andre Polar has only just begun his musical expedition though the north, with each step leading us further into vast, uncharted territory.
